A weakened new list means residents must fight on
If the spirit of the 2007 Constitution is to give communities the right to clean environment and healthy living, it is clearly being challenged by what is called the "new list of projects or activities deemed harmful to the environment and public health".
Former prime minister Anand Panyarachun, head of the government-appointed panel overseeing the Map Ta Phut problem, on one of his visits to Rayong to gather information on industrial pollution from residents.
At the Central Administrative Court last Thursday, the list was used for the first time to decide the fate of Map Ta Phut communities, which have long battled heavy pollution from the industrial estate located nearby.
