A weakened new list means residents must fight on

If the spirit of the 2007 Constitution is to give communities the right to clean environment and healthy living, it is clearly being challenged by what is called the "new list of projects or activities deemed harmful to the environment and public health".

Former prime minister Anand Panyarachun, head of the government-appointed panel overseeing the Map Ta Phut problem, on one of his visits to Rayong to gather information on industrial pollution from residents.

At the Central Administrative Court last Thursday, the list was used for the first time to decide the fate of Map Ta Phut communities, which have long battled heavy pollution from the industrial estate located nearby.

Thank goodness the people of Thailand have got the immaculate Abhisit to look after their welfare. Tee hee.

Yes, the magical word "may." My guess in Thai is "art-ja." "May" is a weak word to be used in any legal means. Just like saying 2,000 baht penalty for dropping cigarette butt may be fined....

I wonder if the former PM Anand will ever do the current PM a favor anymore. All the good work he tried for Abhisit, Abhisit undone them for him. Siam Cement, PTT, and the rest are just too big and more important than the lives of the poor (who is worth about 20,000/person).
