PostBag Die young, Adonis

The proposition that people in the Stone Age did not suffer from the symptoms of old age because of their diet and lifestyle, and that we should emulate them to postpone the ugliness of old age (My Life magazine, Sept 9), needs to be refined in view of the data that, with a lifespan of around 35 years, they never got old in the first place. In other words, a sure way of avoiding the ugliness of old age is to die young!

CHA-AM JAMAL

Taew, a year-old macaque, rides on his friend Suea’s back. The dog was later found dead, believed killed with poison by a jealous neighbour.

'Rap music has a beat with a downward deflection that is condescending in nature. It contains essential rhythmic elements of bragging...'

What on earth does this mean? It is clear that Mr Kokoski does not like rap music, fair enough. However, this quote is pure fish sauce - only someone languishing in the depths of paranoia could find a beat condescending... I'm pretending 'downward deflection' isn't even there! 'Rhythmic elements of bragging' also qualifies as nonsense.

Also, as Just The Facts rightly says - it all has nothing to do with Thailand...

Please publish the name and address of the policeman so people can go tell him what they think of him .Public Shaming is much more powerful than a private jail cell or a back hand bribe .

I believe that a famous song succinctly sums up the problem of entry fees at Wats, national parks etc. etc.

I think the Catholic church lost its moral highground once it institutionalized the rape of children, rap will not be its downfall....

Hmmm so Lord Buddha would not be allowed to enter a Thai temple because he is a not Thai?? Who came up with this senseless rule? How about the World Council of Buddhists? Doesn't that assume that even non-Thais can be Buddhists? (I am one, and American)

Mr. Dobbs, sir, you are very correct as to where the racist Thai attitude leads. When I came here many years ago I was generous of attitude and money. Now I generally give what I get. Thais who have been kind to me receive it back and paid forward. All others must show me first.

For others that live here with family, when I go to any place that has a two price policy my wife simply explains that if I am charged a falang price we are all leaving and our two Thai children will miss out. We have left a couple of times, but generally the price is adjusted.

There are many things about Thailand to love, but increasingly I am tormented by the idea that I am a bad father allowing my Thai-American children to be brought up in this small minded country. Eventually we will have to leave in the interests of our children.

Contrary to "Disgusted Animal Lovers" assertion, there are probably more countries where dogs are eaten than countries with laws that would consider killing one illegal.

Now, consider this: If the police here are not concerned when a dog gets poisoned (and they are not), then they surely are not concerned about complaints involving nuisance animals.

If a dog has an identifiable owner, and many do not, and somebody complains about the dog, the usual result is nothing, or nothing until the dog gets poisoned and then the person who complained gets blamed whether they did it or not.

That is why most people don't complain, they just go ahead and poison problem animals.

If you love your dog, fence your yard or keep it chained, and teach it not to bark all the time.

If you fail to do this, don't complain about other people getting rid of a problem you created.

I love dogs too, but I don't want to be up all night because your dog barks, and don't want to spend half of every day picking up garbage and feces because your dog is not restrained.

Instead of spouting bleeding heart liberal nonsense, suggest something to alleviate the problem!

Being barred from the temple is painful not because of the missed prayer (there are plenty of other temples in Thailand), but because of the humiliation of being discriminated against because of one's origin.
It's much like the ten times entrance fee (Western) foreigners are expected to pay at national parks.
Not the money hurts (even though it can now be 55 US$ for a family of four), but rather the discrimination of not being considered guests in this country but moneyed suckers to be milked in a borderline-scam.
Just image signs "No Thais and Other Asians Allowed" on the doors of Notre Dame or St. Peter.
