Need versus greed

India's great moral leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi famously said that there is enough on Earth for everybody's need, but not enough for everybody's greed. Today, Gandhi's insight is being put to the test as never before.

The world is hitting global limits in its use of resources. We are feeling the shocks each day in catastrophic floods, droughts, and storms - and in the resulting surge in prices in the marketplace.

Our fate now depends on whether we cooperate or fall victim to self-defeating greed.

As long as the 'rich' have connections with government bodies their excesses will not be curbed until whats being exploited runs out. Then they will inevitably have to deal with the fallout to something that they themselves initially have created and fully taken advantage of. The wealthy people of the world see it as their right to exploit the majority of resources as socially we as humans have not socially evolved towards more altruistic methods of sustaining not only wealth distribution but conservation of resources for future generations. The world's wealthy see themselves as kings and lords of a past era. Having billions is never enough for as one Chinese entrepreneur once stated "to be RICH is to be GLORIOUS'
