Some valuable lessons

I would like to welcome Thailand back to democracy after 5 years in the wilderness.

Let us hope that all invested parties are now much older and wiser than they were previously. Every group should have learnt some valuable lessons.

Pheu Thai must now realise that a mandate from the majority is no guarantee that self-interested autocratic abuse of power will be tolerated _ it may be too much to expect anyone would realise that it is simply wrong.

    I'm going to go against the grain here and say I feel Tablets could well help a lot of the kids. My son who is 6 has been using a laptop, Thai/English Keyboard, since he was 5. We allow him a maximum of 1 hour a day. He's beginning to read English very well and can now type in a URL he sees somewhere. It's also opened up a new world to his thinking.

    I also agree with Discussion 6 that it's a lot wiser to buy Tablets for kids than submarines that are useless to anyone.

    TRT loaded upcountry schools with PCs 10 years ago and in some cases they couldn't even be plugged in because of inadequate power. Most were never used because teachers had no IT training, and they ended up gathering dust in storage rooms.

    Round 2. tablets. another misallocation of resources.

    #10 Kena - you forget that they don't want to be inconvenienced by having to obey any laws they don't like ...

    "Abhisit personifies integrity and righteousness" ....may be true, but Thai voters have spoken and they don't want such odd qualities in a leader. The majority of Thai voters want handouts, forgiveness of debts, and computers that will be outdated within months of being issued (and used for games only, as mentioned in the other letter).

    Michael Phillips may be dreaming as some posters here said, but one must dream first before one can realise the dreams.

    Chavalit Van: "Abhisit personifies integrity and righteousness"

    He also is seen by others (partly due to a demonization campaign that no one on earth should have to endure) to represent other things. I support him against all the demonization he has endured. But perhaps it is not best for the Democrats and for parliamentary debate/the next election if he returns as party leader.

    Abhisit's own supporters might do well to consider this.

    @Srinath, Assumption

    Although I'm not at all convinced of the usefulness of tablet PCs for school kids, I think we all have to admit that spending 6 billion baht on this has more merit than spending 7 billion baht on buying half a dozen submarines fit for the scrapyard just to please a handful of generals.
