All hail the de facto prime minister

Yingluck Shinawatra? Isn't she that pretty lady who likes to say "na ka", and not much else?

If Newin Chidchob is de facto leader of Bhumjaithai Party, Thaksin Shinawatra is soon-to-be de facto prime minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. We're just waiting for his sister to be confirmed as the nominee prime minister.

Pheu Thai Party belongs to Thaksin. The government will soon belong to Pheu Thai. Hence, the Thai government will belong to Thaksin.

seektruth D44 - "the only people who died were unarmed"
    You misquoted me.
    "And the soldiers shot themselves??"
There was at least one known friendly fire death, occurring on the afternoon of April 28th, 2010. A soldiers' motorbike slipped on a road, and he pulled the trigger as he fell. His fellow soldier was instantly shot in the head. Very unfortunate. Despite youtube videos showing the contrary, the military released a statement saying he was shot by a UDD protester.

Where does this information come from "the only people who died were unarmed"? What about the soldiers who died - they were unarmed? And the soldiers shot themselves??

bencanuck D41 - "And who created this problem?"
Seeing PTP potentially squeezed into a lose-lose situation, who wants it to be a problem by hyping it up? How would you suggest PTP modify their wage policy so that Thailand wins? I'd suggest PTP imitate the Dem Party wage increase plan as it'll save PTP politically, and it's not as damaging to businesses.

  • Discussion 42 : 21/07/2011 at 08:30 AM42

If you stamp out the corrupt payments from all the government awarded contracts that will decrease the costs of that contract and then can be used to pay a more just daily wage. The total contract paid by the thai people would be the same, the only loser would be the thai MP's and the bureaucrats, but I think this is along time coming.

    "PT belongs to the people"

Not even the UDD belongs to everyday people. Fat chance of PTP belonging to the people.

"For the 300 baht wage increase, PTP is stuck between a rock and a hard place."

    And who created this problem?

Don't bother trying to resolve problems that plague Thailand when one of the world's smartest computers couldn't answer the question and furthermore, had a complete burn out when trying to answer a sublimentary question that simply asked ... WHY?

englishbob D38 - I never denied the Dem Party right to protest there, and if I was in town I would have gone. People did die at Ratchaprasong, such as the 6 bodies found at the temple on Ratchaprasong road. The only people who were shot dead were unarmed - and some of them such as reporters and medics were not even red shirt protesters. The 'men in black' didn't even appear until after the second violent military crackdown on the protesters was initiated. FYI, the credit cards are meant to help them start businesses and require being paid back - it's not a free short term handout.

  • Discussion 38 : 19/07/2011 at 10:47 AM38

@Johninbkk You are misquoting again. On the question of Ratchaprasong being exclusively for the UDD (I believe you thought Democrats should not have the right to use this public space too), Suthep answered that the area should not become a memorial as no-one died at Ratchaprasong. People died in the approach to the site as troops were being attacked by UDD militants.
Of course, had UDD supporters not used weapons, no-one would have died at all, anywhere.

@MrPhilips Your point about the smoke and mirrors of Thaksin's era has been answered twice already. Your analysis of the situation is naive. Poor people benefit from an improved economy. Their LONG-TERM lives do not improve due to hand-outs and credit cards. Populist policies bring about economies like Greece etc.
