Killing me softly, The Newin Chidchob story

Politics is brutal. It's a game of strategy, a trial of chance and it's played by cutthroats.

It's made for men and women who are hard of heart, quick of tongue, lacking in loyalty and thick of skin.

Thaksin Shinawatra will look to cut off the arms and the legs, if not the heads, of his political enemies.

Anybody who thinks Thaksin’s reason to return to Thailand is to satisfy his burning desire to better the country as a whole and serve the Thai people, are deluding themselves. That is not the nature of Thai power broker politicians. It’s my opinion that he wants to “win” by getting back in power. If that occurs he will solidify his grip by whatever means necessary and revenge will be high on the list. I’ve seen no indication through actions that he is a remorseful or forgiving man. Good luck Thailand.

After all, everyone wants to be in the government _ that's where money is to be made.

Isn't that the saddest indictment of Thailand? No-one even needed to comment on it.
Isn't there ONE single, solitary, individual Thai who loves the country more than money?

d10: The truth can be painful to hear. We should be lucky as long as we can express our views freely. Last time the fugitive was in power he shut down all critical media.

"Thaksin Shinawatra will look to cut off the arms and the legs, if not the heads, of his political enemies."

Wow, that is a pretty strong opinion. If any reader were to use such language in their post, chances are it will be censored. But of course, eminent news writers do get to voice their opinions.. especially controversial ones. The question is, how far will BP accept muckraking as a means to increase readership?

If Thaksin says, "I won't take revenge.", assume that he will. As a rule of thumb with the Red Shirts, Peua Thai, and Thaksin: If they say "yes", they mean "no". Telling the truth is not on their radar screen.

D3, everybody is afraid of the Thai judicial system.

I thought this article was about Newin Chidchob? He came in my vizier during the Phoenix Pulp and Paper saga in the 90's where he was part of the "group of sixteen" (politicians) trying to "take over" that company (Rakesh Saxena was also in there). Afterwards playing his favorite "switch sides" game he and his party were dubbed "the wandering tribe from Buriram" for no party would accept them because of mis-trust. This mis-trust is well placed.

Whilst this is interesting reading, remember, a week in politics is a long time and already the FM and possibly the new PM have a "damaclese sword" hanging over them regarding Thaksin's passport. I think the author is brave forecasting what might happen next month, let alone in May next year!

Re discussion #1: This is an OPINION PIECE - it is the author's OPINION and found in the OPINION section of the newspaper. It is not a news article - there are no false claims. It is simply an OPINION. Understand?
