Thaksin not back yet

Cabinet's endorsement of a draft royal amnesty decree on Tuesday cannot be interpreted as anything else but a clear intention of the government and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to facilitate the return home of her elder brother, Thaksin.

What led to the controversial decision is far from transparent. Unlike the approval of similar decrees by previous governments, this draft to seek a royal pardon for convicts on His Majesty the King's 84th birthday this Dec 5, was approved in a meeting behind closed doors. No cabinet members or spokespersons were not allowed to discuss this issue with reporters on assignment at Government House on Tuesday.

Tuesday, Justice Minister Pracha Promnok said only that this was "the start" of the reconciliation process.
