When slogans need a miracle

2012 kicks off Thailand's new tourism slogan: "Miracle Thailand". But how many people here know that? I did a rough survey among people around me on what they thought our slogan was and the answers I received were 'Amazing Thailand' or 'Unseen Thailand'.

When I asked them if they had heard of a new slogan with the word 'miracle' in it, the response was mostly, "Huh?", "What's that?" or "Come again?"

But just to make sure I was not confused or incorrect, I called the TAT's Call Centre on 1672. Besides, I was sure it was a common question and thought I should get the right answer.

Thailand's search for a slogan reminds me of an old school motto that should be employed in its bid for tourism - be it in fact or demonstrated ... 'DEEDS - NOT WORDS'

Thailand doesnt need a miracle .It needs a slap in the face to wake up .Stop sitting on your hands waiting for Thaksin to solve your problems for you .Did you notice ? He isnt here .As our country goes massively into debt the second the government had a chance to get a hold of the cash it grabbed as much as it could .If PT thinks it will milk taxpayers like cows to placate the poor then you have another thing coming .

    Maybe Thailand needs a miracle.

Simply put, it shows how clueless the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand really are. They need more than a miracle to come anywhere close to 30 million foreign tourist arrivals by 2015.
