Saddled with a trade rep who cannot trade

Re: ''Nalinee refuses to quit'' (BP, Jan 23).

I am a Zimbabwean forced to start from scratch in Chiang Mai's tobacco industry, after my farmland was confiscated by Robert Mugabe's government and ''awarded'' to a relative of his wife Grace, who is a social friend of Nalinee Taveesin.

This was back in 1992, and undemocratic actions like this forced the United States to impose sanctions against the ''Mugabe circle''. So the Mugabe regime ''looked East'', finding Asian politicians to do their buying for them, promising lucrative mining concessions down the line.

Don Dumm, it is not a selling off of 2% of the shares, it is only the transferring of the shares in PTT, and Thai airways to another business the Finance Ministry owns. This will hide almost 1 trillion in debt these companies have, ans allow the government to borrow that much more adding 20% to the total debt of the country in real numbers, when you open up to transparency all the debt the government really has.

In less than 3 years this should push the baht down to around 50 baht to the dollar so Thailand is again real poor, and labor costs are down, totally reversing all the Democrats did by making the baht the strongest it has ever been. 300 baht a day will be worth less than it was 6 years ago, yet prices for necessities will go up another 30%.

R H Suga, this is Thailand, nobody quits here no matter how bad their behavior or how big their crime. You must be confused with Korea or Japan.

About Nalinee's appointment to the Cabinet. The last time I counted the stars on the Old Glory, there are 50 of them, meaning Thailand is not the U.S.' 51st state. Yingluck did the right thing by ignored the World Police's nonsense blacklist of Nalinee. What next? Thai government has to sever diplomatic tie with Iran too?

R H Suga: Nallinee won't give up her position in the Cabinet as she will be feeling that she has earned her 6 months at Thailand's biggest ATM machine.

Dom Dunn: Allow me to explain. Thaksin reduces the debt. He can then borrow more money for projects from which he and his friends can take their 30% commission. After deducting his share he will have more money to keep his Red Shirts happy; to fund the expansion of the Red Shirt Village Federation; to create a large vote-buying fund for the Constitution referendum and the next elections at which he will try to create a one-party state; etc. Does this explanation help, Dom?

    Dom Dunn
How did you come to the conclusion the government is trying to reduce debt by selling PT shares ? It seems painfully obvious they are just free up as much credit as possible so they can waste it and drive the country into the ground at which point Thaksin can save us .Not
