Toasting Froc for a bad job

The government is to host a gala dinner at Government House this Friday to thank staff of the Flood Relief Operations Command and others who helped in the relief operations during last year's devastating flood.

Gen Prem Tinsulanonda, president of the Privy Council, has reportedly accepted the government's invitation to chair the event, officially named "Rak Muang Thai, Dern Na Prathet Thai" (Love Thailand, Move the Nation Forward). Others invited include commanders of the three armed forces, top businessmen, members of the diplomatic corps, cabinet ministers and their spouses.

There are countless people whose contributions during the prolonged flooding are worthy of praise and appreciation. One single group of people from different walks of life, different nationalities and social status, stood out _ the so-called jit arsa volunteers. They selflessly and tirelessly packed relief materials into bags, put sand into plastic bags, carried sand bags and distributed relief kits to flood victims.

The Puea Thaksin party is running a party to celebrate their own incompetence that killed more than 800 Thais. Shame on them!

You are wrong to say that "We have all disagreed about this party." I fully agreed that the government should continue the good tradition of having an annual garden party to say 'Thank you' to officials. It is not a celebration of victory or achievement. It is appreciatiion and gratitude. Our children should be inculcated with the characters of appreciation and gratitude.

The author here is just copying what everyone has already said and written about this subject. We have all disagreed about this party. But my main intrest and thoughts are besides the people still affected, what about all the money raised to help people who were and still are suffering from the flooding? Where is it all? The party should be held in an area which has suffered greatly. See what the people think then.

To be fair, FROC was directly responsible for organizing the volunteers and soldiers and water experts, directing their efforts. FROC employees literally slept at their job, with sleeping bags, for two months. I filled sand bags out in the sun for hours watching soldiers sleep the entire time. The author is intent on blaming the floods entirely on FROC, but the flooding started two months before PTP even became government! FROC didn't cause the damage - the floods did - their job was to minimize the damage after it was already too late.

What the author should be thinking is, 'after 200 people died in the 2010 floods, why was nothing done to prevent a re-occurrence?' Or perhaps, 'does BMA share blame for mis-managing it's own water drainage canals for a decade?'

This is just anti-TS hype with no interest in understanding the true causes of the floods.

What is wrong in saying 'thank you' to officials who worked tirelessly during the national flood crisis at this stage? It is not a celebration of victory or achievement. Instead of suggesting to the government to come out with events that recognize the works of the volunteers, this 'editorial news report' presented the government good intention in a negative manner. Our children should learn the good attitudes of gratitude, sincerity, and appreciation and of good characters. This editorial is ridiculous and disgusting. This editorial is misleading Thais and inciting discontent.

To be fair, FROC was directly responsible for organizing the volunteers and soldiers and water experts, directing their efforts. You seem intent on blaming the floods entirely on FROC. Seriously? The flooding started two months before PTP even became government! 200 people died in 2010 from flooding, so why aren't you complaining about AV doing nothing to prevent a re-occurance? BMA let their irrigation systems fill up with dirt and plants - but you aren't blaming them either. FROC didn't cause the damage - the floods did. FROC didn't cause the floods, their job was to minimize the damage after it was already too late. FROC employees literally slept at their job, with sleeping bags, for two months. I filled sand bags out in the sun for hours watching soldiers sleep the entire time. What did you do? This is just anti-TS hype with no interest in understanding the true causes of the floods.

The impact on global economy is yet to be accounted by anyone.

There had been a Hard Disk shortage here in the US since Nov. last year, the price had finally dropped down to 2x of what they were last summer from a high of 3x or more around Christmas/NewYear - IF you can find anyone who had them in stock.

Costs more to the consumer, costs more to the computer mfg., people are putting off purchases because they don't want to spend the extra cash - economic condition being what it is.
Those who must buy ended up having to spend more money than they should have otherwise.

And that's just one single product type.
I'm sure people at Dell and HP had told Western Digital and Seagate to make different future plan than resuming production in a flood zone already.

Why is anybody thinking that ALL necessary measures and constructions can be done before the next rainy season.
For this year we will still have to depend on managing instead of preventing the flooding.

Those with any honour or dignity would have abstained from attending such an event.

    I wonder how many did.
