The prime minister's new challenge

As head of a super committee charged with water resources management and flood prevention, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has accepted a real challenge which will prove against her critics that she is more than just a pretty face with a sense of high fashion.

As head of the super committee charged with water resources management and flood prevention, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has accepted a real challenge, a chance to prove to her critics that she is more than just a pretty face with a sense of high fashion.

A few days ago, five provinces were declared drought affected by the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department. They are Kamphaeng Phet, Lamphun and Sukhothai in the North, Loei in the Northeast and Chanthaburi in the eastern region.

The department said that altogether 1,413 villages in 45 districts in the five provinces are affected because they have no access to the irrigation system.

This is not the definition of leadership. I would love to know what management or leadership philosophy this belongs to - layers of committees, filled with non-experts, even worse filled with political hacks looking for opportunities to dish out and receive favours. If this is leadership, then I would prefer to be without.

Does anyone in this country understand the difference between policy, strategy and management?

One day after the committee is formed, people alongside the river in Ayuthaya experience flooding when it's never happened before in February in living memory. Talk about embarrassing, they're releasing water from the dams but can't even get that right!

Dis 4 - actually to voluntarily assume the position would be considered an act of leadership. Review of the leader's capability to lead is progressive in a given situation.

Dont understand how having Yingluck in charge is supposed to make everyone feel better .She was the one in charge when we were flooded and she didnt do anything except the odd photo opportunity to say sorry she couldn't do anything .Why not leave water management to who ever was doing it before Yingluck was put in charge .We never had any problem before her .

Up until now, Yingluck has just been hanging around like a spare part.

Let's hope this position is something she can focus on and actually do something for the good of Thailand. She may have a chance as Chalerm and his boss have other issues on their agenda.

Unlike the other members of her cabinet, I believe Yingluck truly wants to help the Thai people.

Could be the definition ggh, whether or not she can define herself as a leader remains to be seen. Thus far, her leadership has been abysmal to say the least.

The super committee will oversee the Strategic Formulation Committee for Water Resources Management who will oversee the advisory body and a committee, and they will oversee the Water Resources Management and Flood Committee.

    Anybody confused yet?

She previously placed Justice Minister Pracha Promnok as head of the discredited Flood Relief Operations Command, which proved to be a disaster. Yet they have been rewarded this Friday with a highly expensive shindig at Govt house in appreciation of all their good work in managing the floods?

    Everybody must be confused now?
