Several experts in water management have warned that Bangkok and nearby provinces will be severely flooded again this year if no preventive measures are put in place before the rainy season arrives.

More extreme weather can be expected this year as a result of climate change, which is occurring worldwide, they said.

More than 400,000 workers were made jobless when seven industrial estates in Ayutthaya province and on the outskirts of Bangkok were flooded late last year. Hundreds of thousands of houses in Lop Buri, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and the suburbs of Bangkok were also submerged.
