Put a tax on sea polluters

Today I went to the beach near my condo on Pratamnak Soi 5 in Pattaya. There was a strong wind blowing from the sea. This caused floating objects in the sea to be washed ashore.

It was a hideous sight of trash, no doubt tossed off passing boats. Plastic bottles, cans, paper and all kinds of garbage lined the beach and floated in the surf.

Who has a solution for this disgrace? Perhaps a flat tax on all boats using Thai waters would curtail the boat operators from littering, or at least prompt them to clean up their mess.

Is really that hard to see where the pollution comes from in the sea ? The currents dont change much.Who is out there on a regular basis ? Fishermen ? Freighters ? ? Tour boats Look at what the trash is that floats up and it should give you an idea of who it is . Impose heavy fines on polluters . Much of Thailand is becoming a litter bin full of plastic bags and garbage from our lazy disposable lifestyles .

Pattaya people complain about trash thrown off the boats while we in Bangsaen is getting much more trash on the beach especially around this time of year, because we always blamed it on Pattaya and Sri Racha/Bangpra.

Ohpchoi, I am sure you were only half serious in your suggestion. However something needs to be done about the road deaths in Thailand. Be it bikes, cars, vans, buses or trucks it is shameful.

When people are offered a licence if they pay B3,600 no questions asked you have to wonder don't you. The next time you get in a bus or van or catch a cab just ask yourself. Did the driver earn his/her licence or did he/she buy it ?

A personalized letter of thanks signed by the Prime Minister and presented with a frame even would have been more appropriate than the party. The receivers would keep this for as long as they live. Then she could have written an open letter of thanks to all the unnamed volunteers and had it printed in the newspapers, with a copy available on paper from some government office for those who wanted to keep it as a souvenir. If there really is no adequate plan to deal with flooding, then Khun Yingluck might like to use this idea later on this year.
