Despite government assurances, critics are not convinced that all state agencies concerned will be able put all flood-prevention measures in place before the next rainy season arrives.
A budget of 350 billion baht has been set aside by the government for state agencies to implement new water management plans that include the dredging of canals and the installation of early flood warning systems.
The National Strategy Committee on Water Management has announced that Bangkok will not be flooded if the amount of rainfall this year is the same as last year. The new measures will be able to reduce the amount of water that flows into the Central Plains and further down to Bangkok and surrounding provinces.
