One small step for Yingluck

As far as the government is concerned, the 10-million baht cost of staging the "Love Thailand, Move Thailand Forward" gala dinner at Government House on Friday was worth the cost despite all the criticism of bad taste, waste of taxpayers' money, a PR stunt, etc from a host of critics.

Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra are all smiles at the gala party at Government House on Friday.

The critics are not wrong in their attacks given the mere fact that there are still several thousand flood victims who have yet to receive the 5,000 baht initial compensation promised by the government and, especially, that the social event was intended to say thank-you to the staff of the incompetent Flood Relief Operations Command and the other agencies and volunteers who helped in the flood relief operations.

D6 Couldn't agree more. Now, D4, can you do us all a favour and get on board with a similar expression of even-handedness, rather than the standard one sided contributions?

D3 and D4 both have a point, The reason Thaksin thinks it's all injustice is because he has to go to jail and not the others, but rather than manning up and the PTP insisting that the coup leaders be put on trial they are using it to cancel out his conviction. Meanwhile, there is a significant sector of society (the one's who mainly pay the taxes and aren't passionately supporting either side) who realise how important it is that the law should be upheld and both lot go to jail. As it stands, we're probably heading for an outcome where everyone gets off scott free, which of course sets an appalling precedent. No government is going to put any shirts on trial for their sins because they will have to follow through with similar trials for their own street armies.

Khun Johninbkk: I would like to see all wrongdoers in court. What the Yellows did at the airport was so, so wrong, even if it did get rid of Mr. T. It caused financial losses and hardships to many people. You are right in saying that the Airport folks should be punished. Justice is a pillar of society.

10 million is better spent to help poor people.

Renaissance D3 - Part of what is hindering reconciliation is people insisting their side should be immune from all crimes, while the other side should all be imprisoned indefinitely. Which side has been convicted or imprisoned without trial, and which side has never seen a day in court? Who should appoint the judges that rules in these courts so that all sides consider it a fair judgement?

I would love Khun Yingluck to succeed in reconciling the country, and I'm sure as a woman she could, but it doesn't matter how many parties she holds, it's all in vain as long as she is working for her brother, and as long as he insists on trying every devious and conflict-ensuring way he can to avoid his day in court.

Abhisit, Prayuth or Sondhi as 'overlord of the amataya elite', now that is funny.

"Gen Prem, who is considered by the Pheu Thai Party and red-shirt followers as the overlord of the amataya elite and their Number One foe"
Since when? What about AV, Gen Prayuth, and Sondhi L?
