Tell us the truth

PM Yingluck insists time and again that food prices have not increased under her watch. She even announced publicly that 11 of her ministers would personally go to the markets the following day and check on prices themselves.

And, surprise, surprise! None of her ministers, with staff and media in tow, found any merchant brave enough or foolish enough to charge more than last year.

Ma'm, one far wiser than you said, ''You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time'' (Abraham Lincoln; attributed). Thus, an Abac poll, published the same day that your ministers did their market visits, showed that 90.1% of respondents felt that food prices have gone up over the past year.

JINGLE BELL'S forum post: 'Words no action'... I agree, under Thaksin's red shirt government Thais have heard a lot of words but seen little or no action... Maybe they'll now realise that all those unkept promises were only a ruse to gain power, somewhat like a carrot held on a stick in front of a donkey to make it gallop whilst not realising it will never catch it ... MUCH LESS GET IT.

It seems Yingluck has finally realised that the public aren't as stupid as she first thought... One hopes her brother Thaksin gets that message, butts out and stops meddling in Thai affairs.

China Watcher - when considering what China has to offer you might consider that there is one man who would like to have a government more like China with only a chosen few running the country and less political freedom to speak out.

As an avid cook I do shop at local food markets to buy fresh produce. And it is a fact that many prices have gone down. But most other commodities have gone up resulting that the cost of living, and the costs of those trying to make a living, have gone up. This extra cost has to be passed on leaving everyone with less money. What's worrying is that many non local market commodities haven't gone down when they should have done, leaving us feeling ripped off and definitely out of pocket.
