Democrat MP Thepthai Senpong's criticism of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's recent visit to the troubled deep South was uncalled for. We wonder if the Democrat Party has ever made any constructive proposals to end the southern crisis.

During her visit, Ms Yingluck was briefed by government officials and community leaders in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces. She also made courtesy calls on religious leaders in the Muslim-dominated region.

The visit was another clear signal from the Pheu Thai Party-led government that political rather than military measures would be its main peace-building strategy in the three southernmost provinces.
