Korkaew's parallel world

Re: ''Korkaew comes under fire'' (BP, July 13).

Red-shirt leader and Pheu Thai MP Korkaew Pikulthong claims that his remarks were not intended to intimidate anyone or instigate unrest.

If calling for the arrest of judges and predicting civil strife does not constitute a call to arms, what parallel world is he living in? I would suggest that it is high time these people were silenced by their Pheu Thai Party leaders before they cause any further harm.

Michael Hardman: As I'm sure you know, nobody dares to upset the Phuket tuk tuk mafia folks because they will be harmed physically, just like tourists are now and again when they "upset" a mafia member. Local politicians and police won't because doing so will upset their personal benefits. Perhaps the only way change will happen is by the local government being told by central government to carry out a very large public survey in Phuket about people's feelings towards the tuk tuk mafia; a survey which includes tourists. For sure the survey will condemn the mafia folks, and perhaps then the authorities will feel emboldened to implement change, such as a cheap bus system on the tuk tuk routes. Until this happens, as the saying goes, "The Mafia Rules, OK!"
