Generally dodging the bullet

Again, the issue of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva's alleged dodging of mandatory military conscription has returned to haunt us, dug up this time by Defence Minister Sukampol Suwannathat and blown out of proportion by Jatuporn Prompan.

Most of the people I spoke to simply shrugged off the issue with a "who cares?" reaction. Whether they are right or wrong, I don't know. Some may argue anyone violating the law deserves punishment, and digging up the issue was relevant and worth the effort.

Some, like most of my friends, may think otherwise. Besides, we don't need to be rocket scientists to figure out this is merely a political game to undermine and tarnish the Democrat leader.

In a modern technological army Two years does not even cover basic training. To handle, maintain and used sophisticated weapon systems you need fully trained military, not conscriptees. This is why most western nations have abolished conscription.

Personally, I think the charges that Abhisit wasn't in the military are totally without merit. Of course Abhisit served in the military and he served with distinction. General Paochinda even gave him the rank of PM in 2008.

Why is this article under the heading Thinkbox? I don't see much "thinking" involved in it. It's just more blatant pro-Abhisit vacuousness. Cut and paste propaganda. Stealthy and devious, yes, but nothing original or even particularly interesting. Thinkbox? In what way? Thinking in a box? Yes. That's it.
