More hot air in far South

The new role of Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung in handling the problems in the restive far South is becoming clearer after Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced she was putting him in charge.

He spoke to the press on Tuesday after a special meeting to assess the unrest, following a string of deadly attacks which have left about a dozen security officers dead since the start of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Mr Chalerm said he would propose the setting up of a new command centre based at the Royal Thai Police head office.

It's a common technique used by Thai political parties. When a problem appears, the party assigns a high profile person or a committee to deal with the problem. The public (especially the voter base) is impressed by the urgency given to the matter and think highly of the party. But people's memories are poor and they don't show interest in following up to check progress. When the assigned person or committee fails, the party places the blame on the Opposition or on causes beyond its control. The people (especially the voter base) believes the party's excuses as they don't know better or don't really care anyway. Thai Politics 101.

After following Mr Chalerm's antics for a year now, I can safely say that I consider him to be a disgrace to everything that is right and proper about democracy.

The fact that he is allowed to be in such a prominent position is an excellent example of all that has gone wrong since PT took power.

Most of the hot air came from Bangkok, not from the south.

Was it not him that stated Thailand did not have a problem and that it was exaggerated by the media.

    spot the difference

1)running the deep south from a command center in Bangkok with the government elite not going south and seeing for themselves what needs to be done

2)Bangkok elite running the country ignoring the north east and and ignoring what the people want

wasn't the second the basis for a lot of the current governments complaints and campaigning during the last election?

you need people in the south to figure out whats really happening and from there work out the best way to solve this problem

Mr.C has done on thing for sure. He has just given the employees and officals of the U.S. Pentagon the biggest laugh they have ever had. Just to think a guy like Mr. C setting up a Pentagon like the one in America is just too funny.
He cant even catch an illegal casino.

Why pick Chalerm? This is a position that requires someone with absolute dedication to the task at hand. He is on record as saying he wouldn't waste the petrol in his car going to the South. This is just an insult to the security forces and the local population who put their lives on the line everyday just doing the normal things the rest of us take for granted.

    Absolutely disgusting appointment.

Does Mr C even know what the Pentagon is, what it does?

Does anyone know when the last time Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung was even in the deep South? I know he has gone abroad a few times to see the "fugitive", but was curious to know when the last time he's journied south to boost the morale of the policemen serving him that are in harm's way.

"Like the US Pentagon". Almost funny if the matter wasn't so serious. Doese he realize that people like him, his son, etc. etc. would never get a job in the US Pentagon?
