The Pheu Thai Party is not giving up its attempts to revamp the constitution and bring about its sown version of national reconciliation, even though it has decided to put the four reconciliation bills and the charter amendment bill on hold for the time being.

This is a tactical retreat, intended to avoid another showdown with the yellow-shirt People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and the multi-coloured group which staged protests in June when the reconciliation bills, including the one proposed by former coup maker Sonthi Boonyaratglin, were to be debated in the parliament.

The protest and blockade of the parliament by yellow-shirt protesters forced the indefinite postponement of the debate.

Android - you recently wrote that the reason Abhisit said there was no rush to censure the PM was that Peua Thai scared him with some secret information about him...

So... by that same 'infallible' logic, delaying the whitewash bills MUST be because the Dems have some secret information that scares Yingluck, right?

My biggest source of information is the English press and that can often bring up more questions than answers. But, one of my problems with the Dems is that they always appear to be a knee jerk, crisis response type of organization rather than being proactive. The old roadblock, public building take over seems to be the preferred method of dealing with the opposition, when they could be using this time to inform people of the dangers in the proposals made by PT. Better to blunt the end of the opposition's spear rather than assume you can avoid it.

A retreat or postponement has not put the problem away; it is like the doctor who says that a surgery is necessary to save the situation or stave off the worse. PTP has technically followed the Court ruling -- but the legal tangle remains unresolved. The campaign of the Opposition against..the reconciliation has died down ! The cumulative recoil of the above will, eventually show up. Surely, it is not a defeat or set-back to the PTP !!
