Parents' role crucial in child safety

The story of a 12-year-old girl whose head got stuck between an escalator handrail and the upper floor's wall at Future Park Rangsit last week was not just shocking. This dreadful news called for immediate action from the department store to step in and investigate whether its structural design and the installation of escalators are safe.

When bad things happen, of course someone needs to step up and take responsibility. And in this case, the store is not doing a bad job. Its executives promised the mega-mall would take full financial responsibility for the hospital fees for the unfortunate girl who is still in a coma due to a blood clot in the brain.

The girl's mother, in the meantime, declined to be interviewed and appeared with red, teary eyes. According to new reports, the 12-year-old was on her way to an extracurricular class at the mall. She along with her younger sister were at first in the car with their mother who was then trying to find a parking space. The mother decided to drop them off while she continued hunting for a place to park.
