No time for squabbling

Khun Atiya Achakulwisut's column made for scintillating reading. It is appalling that the two major parties appear to be at loggerheads even as the country and Bangkok prepare for a second year of floods. This is not the time for making allegations and tirades against each other. Both the Pheu Thai Party as well as the governor's office need to set aside their simmering differences and make sure that the lives and property of more than 12 million people get priority.

R. SRINATH

Many people seem confused over the one-way gates to be installed at Suvarnabhumi airport. Based on the test earlier this year they will not be placed at the building entrance but at the point where people cross the road from the taxi drop-off.

Sorry, Mr Srinath but I dont think that the lives and property of 12 million Bangkokians were on their minds when these people entered politics. Profit is all people think about these days.

    D1
AOT intransigence on bad ideas is pretty well known when they opened the new airport people had to take a bus from the airport to area where you could get a taxi into town or a bus hoping people will pay for an AOT limo into town
Even after months of continuous complaints they finally moved the taxi rank to the airport
If this happens then be prepared for months of complaints before anything happens
If they were serious about sorting this mess out how about actually running a proper value for money limo service
Split a map of Bangkok into zones offering fixed price fares to these areas at a comparable rate to what a taxi would cost and stick big signs up with the prices stated
    Have 3 prices
1 mini bus (comparable to a bus into town)
    2 small sedans (taxi rate)
    3 luxury limo
Other airports run schemes like this and it would make some serious money if run correctly

Not dealing with the taxi mafia and instead inconveniencing the the airports customers is typical of most attempts to come up with band aid solutions to corruption .Mafia types are allowed to flourish because of indifference or help from those on authority .There was a leader in I believe Kazakhstan who drove a truck all over the country looking for corrupt police to pull him over .After he returned all those officers were fired .I wish we had someone with a spine like that here .

It confounds me why Thailand a hugely popular tourist destination allow cliques and mafia groups to monopolise basic tourist requirements such as public transport in and out of airports. Not only does the country's major airport support these dubious practices but also major destinations like Phuket where the airport slugs taxis with huge fees as well the drivers themselves rorting massive fees out of unknowing tourists. Taxi fares in Phuket are some of highest in the world..Why

    1. Two solutions for all the people unhappy with TrueVision is to use one of the other satellite TV providers (much cheaper) or to get an internet television (far more choice). I gave up on TrueVision years ago because of all the repeats and chose the internet alternative.

    2. I doubt if the AOT will install or keep the airport one-way gates for long as there will be such an uproar of dissatisfaction. In addition, people will just climb over them to get to the 4th Floor taxis while ignoring any guards placed at the gates to stop them doing so. Tempers could fray at the gates. It's not worth it, AOT!
