Postbag: More of Pasuk, please

Re: ''Thailand needs higher wages to succeed'', (Nov 6, Opinion). Congratulations to Prof Pasuk Phongpaichit for writing this excellent piece of economics for application.

It should be required reading for Thai politicians and for the business community.

In fact, I wish Prof Pasuk would have a regular column on development economics in the Bangkok Post and also in a Thai-language newspaper.

David is right, and more close to home, he, Thaksin, is poking his nose to Asean. I bet he is not really welcome in Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines, only in Myanmar and Cambodia, pretty rogue states by comparison.

    DUTCHIE
Thank you for a great letter
The state should not be in the murdering business itself if murder is unlawful
Besides, revenge is an ugly thing and not a function of any criminal justice system
And as david brown pointed out, the irreversability of death is the big issue here
I was going to send something in on this topic but you and david brown have said it all quite well
    thank you

You mean the fact that that Thaksin was convicted under a law from the 1997 constitution and found guilty under one of his own proxy governments. There are 6 more offences waiting for his return and even under a government and police force packed with his family and cronies he will not return.

Before the verdict his told the world he had faith in the Thai courts and Thai justice. After the verdict he asked permission to visit the Olympics and to return which was granted. He then failed to return and became a fugitive.

Is this the action of an innocent man?

David, the only country that cares about Thaksin convictions from a government created by coup is Thailand. The rest of the world knows the facts.
