"It moves forward because of you."

Those were the words of United States President Barack Obama in his victory speech on Wednesday, referring to the path of the American union as determined by the American people.

But Mr President, I live in a country that refuses to move forward.

This US election has been savage and bitterly fought between the two parties. Personal attacks, innuedos & raw critics on both sides were thrown into the fray in advertisements, talk shows, editorials. Now when the dust settles and true to the spirit of democracy, citizens accept the verdict and the battle move to both houses. I am sure that the critics will not stop but no threats like in Thailand to take the government by force. Let democracy progress and when people feel the power in their hands, the quality of governance will surface.

    K. Voranai, when I was listening to Mr. Obama's voctory speech, I had the same sad and sickening feeling, about the direction of where our country is heading. All of our leaders and to some extend the people, all have the same mind set of grab, conquer, lie for personal gains. The future of our country never enter their minds. I just wonder how our corrupt leaders will react to it, probably just laugh.

Thailand too has this Characteristic amongst its people. I remember growing up a young boy on a farm in South Dakota. There were many a day when my parents were not certain where the money would come from for our survival. Much the same, my wife’s parents in Ubon struggled in a similar fashion on the farm to in

Many people have been saying this in these columns for a long time but only people can alter things the general public but by keeping them uneducated those in control can guarantee there own existence for as long as they need.

Absolutely spot-on. Yet another great piece from Thailand's most honest commentator.
