Jatuporn makes a point

In a world where leaders take responsibility and make sacrifices for the people and the nation, the leadership on both sides of our political divide would be standing in front of the judges. Whether any are guilty of anything, is up to the judicial system to decide.

On Tuesday Nov 13 at the Bangkok Post forum with United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leader Jatuporn Prompan, other red activists and academics, the controversial politician made a point worth considering.

He said amnesty should be given to everyone, red or yellow, but the respective leaderships must surrender to face charges of terrorism and be judged by the law. People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leaders such as Sondhi Limtongkul, Chamlong Srimuang and others must surrender. He himself would also surrender.

If Jatuporn is serious about it would be a good sign; however I don’t believe there will be any follower. The big shots are protected by this “preferential” system and will not want to have it changed.

The root cause of this messy problems stem from systemic graft and corruption in which TS got away with "honest mistake" of his asset concealment case. One of the judge was appointed about 1 month before the trial was the decisive and vote in favor of TS. One month is not enough time for the judge to examine the case, he may be swayed by a large cookies box! As evidence on the land deal case, TS's attorneys were sent to jail for six months when they delivered cookies box that contained 2 millions bahts inside.

Geoffo, you're right, but I would add Sondhi, Nattuwat, Arisman and Weng - all major players with culpability to be acknowledged either in this life or another. And all of these have at some time in 2009 and 2010 actually said they will take responsibility, they just haven't actually done so.

Faceless D14, I'm not expecting to see it either, but unless the "big fish" are willing to sacrifice their own personal/political interests, true reconciliation will likely remain an unfulfilled dream. Even then, no guarantees.

I cannot understand a whole article. a whole strategy is written purely on the PRESUMPTION that Jatuporn is "willing to step up in front of the court. "
First of all, the man has proven over and over to be a pathological liar...He has produced the most insane accusations, denials and inventions...all of them were untrue...he has threatened the CC judges.... he is the master of deceit and red rhetoric....This is a PR stunt, produced by the script writers from UDD or Amsterdam himself. Let us not be fooled by these lies... he is with his back against the wall because the proof of his terrorism and other breakings of the law is overwhelming!

Didn't AV and Suthep say they were willing to face the courts provide their counterparts did. It would seem the only major ones that might be unwilling would be Gen Sonthi and Mr T.

Sorry, but Jatuporn does NOT make a point here,,,, he (mis) uses Bangkok Post forum to spread his usual lies, red rhetoric, denials, inventions and pure red village fantasies! But I am sure Dubai and Amsterdam will be very pleased with this BP turnaround.....

jataporn speaks about the justice system to abide by the law so why did udd intimidate and threat the constitution judges on the reconcillation bill, and gave out phone numbers, the airport was unlawful but peace without any injuries unlike the bangkok 2010 riots,so why did jataporn flee the hotel window if he beleives in justice, when someone flee an accident or the law its becomes they have something to hide, taxsin fleed the country because the evidence was overwhelming, people dont trust the law, because its not equal and implemented and politcanns who have any conviction should not be qualifed to serve

I think that Jatuporn's suggestion represents far more people's thinking than we realize. For whatever reason he seems to be suggesting perhaps the only solution to the conflict. But, if Thaksin won't return to face the court, then it won't work. Perhaps one day both sides will eventually work together to demand of Thaksin that he returns to face the court; otherwise, the conflict will never end. It sounds far-fetched, but this may well be the inevitable final stage in resolving the conflict. At present it is Lose-Lose, but once Thaksin faces the courts in person, it will become Win-Win for both sides. Thaksin must realize this.

Dr Dave D11, Dream on. Nobody is going to "put their head on the block" unless their back is up against the wall. As is Jatuporn's.
