Bitter pills for tablet users

What is it with tablet designers? Any tablet without a memory card slot, fail. No standard USB port (of any variety), fail. Low screen resolution, fail. I can understand it from Apple, but what were Samsung and Amazon thinking bringing out "new" tablet models sans memory slot?

Some of the latest Samsung models have one, others don't. Amazon missed the point completely with none of their new models supporting a memory card, a gross oversight probably done to keep the build costs down. The same goes for PC manufacturers. Why would you bother putting a USB 2.0 port in any new computer, apart from the generally poor USB support by any Windows OS, of course. It is almost like the computer manufacturers are falling behind their customers in terms of what they want and look for when making a buying decision.

The Chinese tablet models are currently sitting on the low end of the market, so they have poor screens and lack some features, but that will change. It would be like releasing a smartphone with no memory slot, no ability to change the battery and missing support for some of the most popular codecs and standards. Wait a minute, on second thought, there is already a company that specialises in such devices.

I am retired so a tablet is of no use to me.
Earlier this month I bought a new HP desktop computer with 8, count them, 8 USB slots. It came with a wireless mouse and keyboard and in the worst case of them failing I can always hook up the old style ones with a string attached.
I also use Windows 7 after upgrading from Vista which was good enough for me, but Windows 8, not for another year or so if ever.
