Pitak skipped politics 101

In his letter to ''PostBag'', ''Enlighten the electorate'', JC Wilcox displays a somewhat rudimentary grasp of the concept of democracy, claiming that Pitak Siam is ''a pro-democracy movement'', yet admitting that their leader's purpose was to overthrow the government through military involvement.

Op-ed contributor Thitinan Pongsudhirak wrote that Pitak Siam should concentrate its future efforts on winning elections. Mr Wilcox complains that the writer fails to say how they might do this.

Well, the traditional method is to craft a manifesto of policies that will appeal to a broad spectrum of voters and recruit leaders that voters trust to implement those policies.

Imagine if the actual residents of the United States had instituted an 800,000 Baht visa requirement. The European settlers would have had to visit Thailand before they could land in N. America. It would have served to keep out a lot of riff-raff. John Arnone's ancestors included, I would imagine.

I read "Profiles in Courage" back in the '60s when I was a fan of JFK. Later on I became less of a fan when I found out that though Kennedy accepted the Pulitzer Prize for this book most of it was written by his friend Ted Sorensen.

John maybe your citing the US is not the best argument. Canada, that place up North of you there Eh. On all your 6 points Canada surpasses the US. You can add to that free universal health care, low cost prescription drugs and such. Immigrants get help with English language, education, relocation and a myriad of things from the government for free. And they don't need a single cent in the bank for a permanent resident visa. Maybe your model is wrong.

John Arnone - you make a very pertinent point. Had migration across Europe, and particularly in the UK, the points would mention would apply. Unfortunately the ultra liberals would cry foul; racism, discrimination. The abuse of human rights has knocked out of society whatever common sense there used to be.

Mr. Arnonne assumes that poor people do most of the thieving in the US (and the world). Hate to bust your bubble, John, but the rich and super rich steal truckloads more than the little people.

How Mr John Arnone has this 800K immigration requirement caused improvement in any of the 6 points you mention?
