Govt is hardly convincing about the South

All the 300-plus schools in Pattani province which closed on Nov 26 after the killing two days before of a school director in Nong Chik district by suspected extremists are due to reopen today after Education Minister Pongthep Thepkanchana promised to look into the teachers' demands.

Among the demands are increased hazard pay and compensation in case of injury or death caused by violent incidents perpetrated by suspected insurgents.

As for their safety, it appears most teachers are willing to take the risk of possible insurgency attacks, running the gauntlet back and forth between school and home under military escort rather than boarding in their respective school compounds as suggested by Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha following the fatal shooting of Nanthana Kaewchan, 51, director of Tha Kum Sum school in Nong Chik district.

You are right but, do they really need to work harder on these and other projects? They have a HUGE majority in parliament and can withstand anything irrespective of performance. And when the election day comes, they play the red card again and people rush to vote for them. THIS is life, let them enjoy it.

Khun Drsmith #2, as long as the killings of innocent Thai people occurred outside the economic zones of the Deep South and the South, there is little or no urgency to do anything about it on the part of the Govt. Only when the killings and explosions spread into major economic and tourist zones, like Hard-Yai, Kra-Bee, and Phuket, that the Govt will finally do something about it in a hurry. So, I think your "follow the money" theory is right on. It is sad to see that the lives of innocent Thai people of the Deep South has little or no value whatsoever to their Govt though.

Why no Thailand government administration looks at this problem in the south as serious enough to become the countries #1 priority is beyond belief. 5,000+ innocent people have been killed in the south and nothing has been done, yet there is an all out war on drug dealers with arrests made every week. This makes no sense and when things in Thailand make no sense there is usually a financial motive close behind

I am think that all schools should be close in the south, and send them to be the volunteer in North Thailand so they escape all bad thing that happen in south.
