Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has described his meeting with Malaysia's Home Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein as a win-win for both Thailand and Malaysia. This is only partially true.
Their meeting may have won much publicity, but it will probably fail to end the southern violence.
Mr Chalerm was accompanied by senior officials including army chief of staff Gen Udomdej Sitabutr; the 4th Army Region commander; the national police chief; the secretary-general of the National Security Council; and the secretary-general of the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC).
