The future's grey, but it need not be a death sentence

By 2017, for the first time in recorded human history, the number of people over 65 will outnumber those under 5 years old.

This is the "Global X" crossing point forecasted by United Nations population agencies and many independent experts.

Writing in the Discover magazine in October, Jeff Wheelwright warned of a "grey tsunami" that could inundate the world's healthcare systems and "sweep away today's social, political, and economic norms". We are already seeing signs of this in several European countries and the United States.

oldairman, I don't really think expats are not wanted by the Thai general public nor do I think they are xenophobic as so many seem to think. This is more the property of the politicians who set the so called rules and they are hugely xenophobic for fairly obvious reasons.

Thailand already has a pool of fairly healthy retirees who are able and willing to step in and help wherever necessary but are not allowed to.
I refer of course to the expats who could help, advise, educate and train Thais but who by Thai Laws are not permitted to do so. There is a vast untapped and largely unwanted (by Thais) pool of people out there. Use them while you can.
