No morality in opposing abortion

Let me be direct. When you say you are against abortion because it's sinful, it's not your morality talking, it's your misogyny.

In other words, you're not driven by compassion, but by a hate for women who you think stray from the "good girl" norms.

Sorry for being blunt. But when nearly 1,000 women in Thailand die each year because your opposition has been preventing them from having access to safe abortions, it's necessary to ask why you're allowing your righteousness to take other people's lives.

Don't push the problem to the babies and the women. Men should act responsibly to stop unwanted pregnancies, and be held financially responsible for raising the unwanted baby.

For whatever reasons used to justify an abortion, the innocent baby has the right to live, as much as you and me. The social stigma of being an unwed mother, of being raped is emotionally traumatic, and should be shared with the men.

Society has to stop trying to fix the EFFECTS of unwanted pregnancies, HIV, STDs..etc. and turn the focus on reducing the CAUSES: including rapes, pre-marital sex, promiscuous lifestyles, not using contraceptives..etc

Aborting any unwanted pregnancies is a very personal and traumatic experience for any women to decide; this sort of experience will scare the emotional conscience of any person for life. Sure, early education on the sexuality and the moral aspect of sexual intercourse can significantly reduce unwanted pregnancies but there are other incidents / events that will result in unwanted pregnancies. Whether looking from the legal, moral or scientific angels, the pertinent question then is: should society deny legal help to these women who wanted to abort their unborn child for reasons best known to themselves?

It surprises me that so many anti-abortionist support the death penalty. Surely they are two of the same thing. taking a life. So many anti-abortionist bring religion into the argument. Please don't push your religion onto me.

It is supported by science. But your interpretation looks at human beings according to functions. Human is more than just a sum of the whole. Science is broad. Your brand of science cannot even explain things deep in the person. How do you explain the mind and the emotion? If it can be understood then human beings could have solved human problems by your science-only approach.

    Doza,
I can say that those old videos do not provide a shred of evidence against anything I've said.
A doll also looks human and elicits human emotions. It does not follow that we can conclude it's human being.

Check the best science, not videos intended to hit emotional buttons. We want reliable facts, not deceitful emotions.

A foetus before around 7 months has no ability that could qualify it as a human being. Until around 3 months it doesn't even look more human than a dog foetus.

    Felix, Discussion 22

What can you say about that old series of videos called "Silent Scream" wherein early in the life of a fetus everything is already clearly defined contrary to your "potential" argument?

  • Discussion 22 : 24 Jan 2013 at 06.5822

You are correct that when asleep, comatose etc, I nevertheless have the ability to function as a human being - to think, to reason, to feel, and so on. It is not a potential, it's already there.

However, no foetus before the age of around 7 months has any such ability. A foetus is not a human being asleep, it has not yet even developed any ability that defines a human being. It is at best a potential.

Your refusal to accept the absurd conclusions of your argument (that scratching is mass murder), shows your general refusal to admit reason and facts to the false beliefs on which rest your immoral opinions on abortion.

khun sanusida..I agree with your article. Laws governing a woman's body should be written for women by women. Men should have nothing to say about it.

The anti- abortion lobby in the west has opposed social services needs for women as victims of family violence/pregnancy/rape for years.

My daughter died some years ago. There were inadequate services. I do not care what a fetus is. What I know is that I will never hold her and I will never be a Grandfather. I have two words for the anti-abortionists and they are not "happy motoring".

felixqui #18: If you are sleeping, or comatosed, or an unborn baby, you are not fully functioning. But you have the natural inherent human capacity (potential) to start functioning actively in a few hours, days, weeks or months - because you are a human being.

Comparing the killing of a human being with the scratching of skin truly reflects your attitude towards the sanctity of life and the right to live. That is your choice.

Education and the use of contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies is more effective. It will save more lives. Prevention is better than cure.

Look at the beauty and mystery of human life since conception. Some videos called "Silent Scream" is very informative. Human life is very much "human" even early in the womb of a mother.
