Learn from cyclist deaths

A tragic road accident which killed a British couple on a world cycling tour echoes one undeniable fact: our roads are dangerous (''British cyclists die in pickup crash'', BP, Feb 17).

It's time for the authorities to respond positively to the cyclists' call _ real bike lanes and stringent traffic law enforcement _ and make roads safer for the general public.

The ongoing outcry from the local and international media and those in the cycling society is, I hope, loud enough to make whoever is involved with this issue hear it and act accordingly.

Renassance1: sorry if this sounds over cynicall but your entire comment, which makes a valid argument, still defeated itself with the first sentence.

There is another Thai practice (traditionally shared by the French) that should be preserved.

Nothing is more irritating than going into a toilet in a modern hotel to find the only option for abluting one's nether parts is a roll of tissue paper.

The use of water is more comfortable, more hygenic, and I would think more environmentally friendly. Provided of course there is some soap provided at the sink!

Thais should think a little rationally. If you have a company, would you choose a fugitive of the Law living in another country to run it, and then let the fugitive choose the Department Heads and their Assistants on the basis of how much they have helped him in the past (remember his criminal background for a moment) and on their family relationship to him, with talent and knowledge being the last criteria in his selection system? Of course, you wouldn't. Now jump to the level of a country. This is why Thailand has many totally unsuitable people in leadership positions and a lack of choice. Thailand deserves better than this.
