DSI backpedals on police stations scandal

Out of the blue, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) suddenly decided not to summons Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and his former deputy Suthep Thaugsuban for interrogation in connection with the alleged corruption in the construction of 396 police stations across the country.

Even Mr Abhisit appeared puzzled by the unexpected decision, which is in sharp contrast to the zeal initially shown by DSI chief Tarit Pengdit in pursuing the case against the former prime minister and Mr Suthep, his former deputy prime minister.

“Does this mean that I and Khun Suthep had nothing to do with the (corruption) scandal?” Mr Abhsit said in response to a reporter’s question about the DSI’s sudden about turn.

Disc8 Genii - How odd. You've changed your tune (yet again).

Tharit DID say he was to question someone - Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew. Who didn't appear.
In fact, he summonsed Tharit to his office to apologise...

So please... Don't try to peddle the myth Tharit is doing his job... He's carrying out orders and last week was a VERY clear indication of where those orders come from.

either the chief of dsi steps down ,or do his job,and start finding out the truth, because 396 unbuilt police station, where has the money gone,it wasnt long ago ,surely they have documents and a money trail to who was responsible, and accountable, another propaganda campaign, backfired and appears it was on the brother in law watch,

A very biased opinion read. The DSI is a special investigative department which means they have the right to investigate. What is so alarming with calling in people associated with an investigation for questioning if the DSI are doing their job. Quite simply I would assume by their actions there simply was no need to call in some witnesses due to new evidence since their summons. In fact if new evidence arises these same people may be called again. This is how investigations work so let's not panic folks.

Disc3 Eric... "The reason could simply be that it is clear that Ahbisit and Suthep are unlikely to be leaders of the opposition soon and really no point in putting pressure and to pursue them."

The reason is more likely to be the reason in the article than some outlandish, far-fetched fantasy of a Red Shirt fanatic, isn't it?

Unless you have a modicum of evidence for that statement...(thought not). Personally I think AV and ST will be in politics much longer than YS, simply because they know what they're doing and she's the political equivalent of a make-up demo-girl in Central.

When K Tarit was chosen to be the head of the DSI, under the Dems' government, he was as being an intelligent, qualified and zealous police officer. Visibly no question was asked about his integrity and sense of justice. His position was put in danger by the new PT government, and he probably had to make a solemn oath to blindly serve the Thaksin cult's interests to keep his job! Would it be too harsh to call such a person a lackey (IMO it'd rather be the name used for people running away in front of danger)? Loony Tunes' Daffy Duck would say: 'you are despicable'...

Its pretty plain to see that the DSI has been used as a tool to smear the Democrats.

  • Discussion 4 : 22 Feb 2013 at 14.444

In due course the DSI might we be disbanded and become a footnote in history as a classic example of an agency that was nothing more than a political mud slinging tool, and it's head will be noted for being parody of himself, dispensable, given some cushy post but eventually transferred to the ministry of inactivity when the govt changes hands. Complete waste of tax payers money.

"Some people suspect that the investigation might have stumbled on more dirt that, if publicly exposed, would implicate more people in political and police circles, not just the two Democrats."
I think this is very likely. Also this is the case on a lot of the accusations against TS. many are only accusations, but also many implicate too many others and some with lots of decorations on their shoulders.

There is always the problem that when you dig you never know what you may find. Especially with all the corruption that exists here.
