In search of a new 'magic eye'

"Magic Eye", back in the 1980s everyone knew how to sing the song: "ah-ah yaa ting ka-ya" or "no-no don’t throw the trash". We sang it and we lived it. Have trash in your hand? Better throw it in the bin, not on the street. Magic Eye is watching!

Magic Eye was a social campaign to clean up Bangkok created by Khunying Chodchoi Soponpanich in 1984. Everyone knew the Magic Eye logo and poster, they were everywhere. We loved the song. We loved the campaign. We bought the vision.

Khun Vananai, an excellent analysis if the issues and problems that are bogging Thailand in an ever deepening morass due to corruption and ineptitude of its leaders who have no vision. But what is to be done about these leaders and how and where does the country find leaders capable of moulding the consensus? Does it come down to the apathy of voters or is it rooted in the inability of too many voters to think beyond the impossible promises of the candidates vying for election or is is just down to corruption at all levels? Please follow up your article with ideas of what can or should be done to dig Thailand out of the mire it is in and lea

' Since 2001, more than 30 human rights defenders and environmentalists have been murdered in Thailand'. This is just the tip of the iceberg. If Thais step on the wrong toes, they may have accident and they know it.

Well said, yet again. The question that should be on everyone's lips: "Where are the real leaders, not the business-as-usual types being fed up to the Thai nation?"

Sadly Khun Voranai we probably have to fall a lot further before a new leader emerges because the Thai people are essentially happy with the current average to mediocre choices because they continue to vote for them. BTW the new leader that emerges may not necessarily subscribe to accepted notions of freedom, democracy or rational government or economics etc - because we do not actually know how the people will react to the breakdown of the current consensus or what will emerge from it. The present Italian elections might be a case in point?

Best analysis i have seen so far in the media!!
It doesn't takes a leader to hand out popular goodies, Santa can do the job (for a day)
Vision createds unity, nighvision politics divides ruling classes.

Thailand will always be divided, thats the great thing about democraty.
Thailand is maturing in a fast growing new economic arena(ASEAN) has a dominate position in the region and has huge opportunities to handle.
Squandering time and (a Lot) money on popular votes will be desasterous for future elected governments to reverse.Time is running out though!

You're the "man" Voranai and I'll walk the town with a sandwich board if you run for any office.
