Big fish need reeling in

Re: ''Govt rejects 'Times' report on CP prawns'' (BP, March 7).

Three questions came to mind after reading this news report.

First, why did the government come out in denial mode on behalf of a single Thai prawn exporter _ over the accusation that the said company destroyed the country's ecosystem _ before an investigation into the matter is carried out?

Athasit Vejjajiva serves as an Independent Director of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Co. Ltd. Mr. Vejjajiva holds FRCP from Physician's College of London UK, Honorary Doctorate in Internal Medical and Clinical Science from Mahidol University and Honorary Doctorate from Rangsit University Thailand. Yeah, Snap, you're right - I wouldn't want him on the BOD of any company I had shares in.

The link is on wikipedia. Under family background. Of course it's the internet and it might not be true. But it's been up there for the past few years. So one would think if it were spurious then it would have been taken down.

Vint, I think it's pretty self explanatory. In answer to your questions, who do you think is the director of CP foods is? One Athasit Vejjajiva. As in daddy to junior abhisit. Heaven knows who is at fault here, but useful to understand the background first.

Eric, how do you know that the 3 guys were Brits? When most Americans hear my very British accent I am invariably asked where in Australia I come from!

High speed trains will be high price to build and to ride .They will only cover a small part of the country as well .A complete system will carry containers to the port . It will also take tourists to high travel spots like Pattaya and Phuket .It will also give worker a safe way to return to Issan during holidays .It will allow factories to open in Issan with rail links to port and initiatives from the governemnt as has been done in China .We don't need a trophy train .We need transportation for all .

I frequently do the Bangkok/Chiangmai train trip and while it is slow, I find it relaxing and a good opportunity to take in the sites and chat to fellow train travelers . Mind you I have never taken the night journey as it would be, for me, rather pointless.
