What's going on with Bangkok taxi fares? For the past 10 years I've passed through Bangkok every two months on average and always, with few exceptions, have been able to jump in a taxi and pay the metered fare. But in my last two trips, more than half the taxi drivers have refused to use their meters and said the rate would be 100 or 200 baht _ even for the shortest destination.
Have all the taxi drivers now banded together to try to boost their fare revenue?
My friends in Bangkok report the same thing. Will Bangkok police or tourism authorities doing to anything to stop this?
