Re: ''Putting a price on a dog's life'' (BP, May 11). 

Thank you for your timely and well-researched editorial about the vile and unacceptable dog meat trade in Thailand. The Soi Dog Foundation of Phuket and Bangkok has been actively fighting this shameful trade for the last few years. But it is a very hard battle requiring determination, courage, compassion and funding.

For example, there are currently over 5,000 rescued dogs in Nakhon Phanom, Khemmarat and Buri Ram livestock shelters. Although doing their best for the dogs, the Department of Livestock Development has no budget for them and the fund set up by the governor of Nakhon Phanom province in August 2011 has now run out of money.
