The best tale of the week featured Transport Minister Chadchat Sittipunt attempting to get first-hand experience of the daily woes faced by Bangkok's long-suffering commuters.
Booked on an afternoon flight from Don Mueang, the heroic Mr Chadchat decided to forgo his normal limousine and take the regular airport bus from the city. He duly arrived at the bus stop, sporting a confident smile and proceeded to wait. It will come as no surprise that 40 minutes later he was still waiting, the smile now less apparent.
Eventually the bus showed up and on he hopped, ready for a smooth ride to the airport. Well, not exactly ''smooth''. For the next half-hour, he sat on the bus as it nudged its way forward in midday traffic. By the time the bus got to Victory Monument it had been 80 minutes since he first arrived at the bus stop and he had only reached the quarter stage of his journey to the airport.
