There's an old saying that ''He who laughs last ... doesn't get the joke,'' and I felt a bit that way early last week.
There was a newspaper article on what was voted the funniest joke by comedians at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival and I was left in a state of puzzlement. The award-winning joke went: ''I heard a rumour that Cadbury is bringing out an oriental chocolate bar. Could be a Chinese Wispa.''
I read it two or three times _ clearly I was missing something. After a bit of research I discovered that Wispa was a type of chocolate bar I was unfamiliar with and then realised the rest was a play on words of ''Chinese Whisper'' _ an old game when a message is passed down a line of people, and in the end bears no resemblance to the original words.
