The sad story of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is starting to look more like the end of an era than the brave new world the state enterprise claims to support. In fact, it is arguable that last week marked the end of the SRT's decline, and the beginning of the end.
A talented writer of farce would be unlikely to think up the satirical plot line of a maintenance train working to prevent derailments flying off the rails itself.
That was just one of four accidents and travesties that had the nation slapping its collective forehead in amazement and frustration.
