The arrest of a reputed murder-for-hire gang leader in Phuket last month should leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Joseph Manuel Hunter, 48, a US citizen, was arrested after a formal request by the US government.
The charges against him are about as serious as they can be. They allege murder, training cross-border assassins, trying to kill drug agents and informants _ and all to help major Latin American drug cartels.
Mr Hunter, who was whisked out of Thailand to join other accused assassins and gang members in court in New York, put up no resistance when arrested.
