They came from different places in Laos. All 26 of them. They also had the same dream to work in Thailand and send money home. On Monday, their dream was shattered when the pickup truck that was transporting them lost control and hit a tree on a slippery road in Buri Ram province. Nineteen of them died.
Out of 11 female immigrant workers who died, two of them were pregnant. Those who survived were severely injured.
The accident appeared as a small news items in the Thai media. Such deadly accidents involving immigrant workers have become so frequent that they have lost their shock value. That the Buri Ram car crash made the news at all was due to the high number of deaths.
