Do the police really have to close off so many roads to prevent 100 protesters from seizing parliament or Government House? I don't think so.
Do the protesters have a strong case for their three demands _ that the government stop contacting former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, that they have a chance to review the attorney-general's decision not to indict the ex-premier on terrorism charges, and for retired attorney-general Chulasingh Vasantasingh not to be appointed to any political office? I also don't think so.
So while one side conjures up thin grounds on which to stage a demonstration, the powers-that-be fuel it with their overreactions.
