All eyes are on the capital Bangkok after the caretaker government placed it under a state of emergency following the attempt to "shut it down" by the anti-government protest group led by former Democrat Party MP Suthep Thaugsuban. 

The imposition of the emergency decree has been met with criticism from business, human rights and media groups.

The Tourism Council of Thailand urged the caretaker government to lift the decree immediately as it will cause the nation to lose billions of baht in tourism income over the first half of the year.
