Acting Senate Speaker Surachai Liangboonlertchai has embarked on an unenviable, self-assigned mission to find a "way out" of the country's protracted crisis — and perhaps worst political conflict — that has dragged on for almost a decade.
Resistance against his bid remains strong and the chances of success are slim. But he presses on. He deserves commendation for his courage to take on a near-impossible task and should have support from all of us who want to see a solution to the political stalemate and return to normalcy and peace.
A forum for informal discussions has been set up to allow all key stakeholders to participate, air their views and present their recommendations on how the conflict can be or should be resolved. This process — which is overly ambitious — started on Monday and is expected to conclude today or tomorrow.
