Give us answers, PM

Re: "Flak builds for PM over poll questions", (BP, May 29).

In my opinion, as national leader, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha should put himself in front of the Thai people and willingly answer whatever questions we want to ask him -- not pose them to us just like that.

Questions aside, it is the duty of this interim regime to bring the country back to democracy, after it seized power from a government that reeked with division and corruption, despite being an elected one.

Gen Prayut needs to understand that Thailand needs to have democracy for the simple reason that it has been proven and accepted across the world as the most equitable system for all classes of people.

Simply put, democracy is the best way forward for our country and people to really achieve progress.

It is time we all stopped thinking about ourselves and our generation and proceeded onto building a better future for our country as well as future generations.

There is no time left for a question-and-answer session now.

Questions galore

Some alternative questions for Thai citizens. If we don't have an election will we have good governance? If not, how do we rid ourselves of the unelected?

Is it right or wrong to have an election that doesn't take into account the people's opinions? If the army interferes again how do we solve it?

Flu jab jitters

The flu vaccine is, in general, not very effective. At best it works about 50% of the time and at worst it does not work at all. Furthermore, there are side effects associated with flu shots and these can be severe or even fatal, especially in very young children. Therefore, I would urge everyone to study this matter carefully (the US Centers for Disease Control is a good online resource) before getting jabbed.

Second-rate sources

How wonderfully trusting the Customs Department must be when a source, presumably with a straight face, said that customs officials need to refer to prices declared by the luxury car importers since the officials have no information on the car prices (BP, May 28). We all know the honest reputation of car dealers, so who can blame them for declaring a low value on which duty is calculated?

I mean, if you can't trust a used car dealer who can you trust? Alternatively, customs officials could buy a copy of the Bangkok Post and use the prices of the many supercars regularly advertised for sale therein as a point of reference. Alternatively, if they can't cough up 40 baht for a copy of the Post, how about trying Google?

Perhaps I could claim a percentage reward for the billions of baht in extra customs revenue resulting from my innovative suggestions?

Street food follies

Re: "City clean-up is becoming a waste of space", (Opinion, 25 May).

I would like to congratulate Sirinya Wattanasukchai on an excellent article on street food and public spaces.

This article hits the nail right on the head.

I can only hope the "powers that be" will be hit over the head with it until they realise their folly.

A True sports fest

Sir William Doodadshire complained that True Sports was a failure because they were not showing the French Open live as well as other apparent rants (PostBag, May 27).

I must respectfully totally disagree and suggest Sir William just turn on True Sports and watch both the men and women play at the French Open live! I commend True Sports for their wide coverage of sports events live, including all the tennis majors and Master's tournaments as well as soccer, NBA, NFL NHL, F1 and many other sporting events.

I also suggest Sir William check True sports programming before he makes an error and complains about something that is not correct.
