If she could have been in control, Um would have stayed another month longer in her mother's womb.

Um's mother gave birth to her prematurely, when Um was only an eight-month-old foetus. Now almost 4, she suffers from a hearing impairment. According to her doctor, this is the result of an abnormality of the 13th pair of chromosomes caused by premature delivery.

Impaired hearing leads to difficulties in speaking. Um cannot pronounce words clearly or speak in sentences like other children her age.

Doctors have also found that her hearing ability is progressively deteriorating. This will be a great threat to her overall development.

Um urgently needs a hearing aid which is priced at 20,000 baht.

Two other children, also under the care of the Holt Sahathai Foundation, need to wear this kind of device, too. This is relatively a large amount of money for the small foundation.
