Phud Hong Foundation basic information

Phud Hong colony established by government in 1956.
In January 1974 there were 255 lepers and dependents.
The five-baht a day food allowance was cut. There was no more government funds for food.
Bangkok Post ran story about colony on July 12, 1974. Readers contributions led to establishment of Phud Hong Leper Fund.
Queen Rambhai Barni became patron on August 27, 1974.
Fund registered as Phud Hong Leper Foundation Under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rambhai Barni in 1982.

Phud Hong Milestones

  • Building a kindergarten to provide early education for children of patients.
  • Building two fully-equipped 60-bed open hospital wards.
  • Repair to the old hospital and providing equipment for minor operations.
  • Constructing an all-purpose building for various functions.
  • Obtaining help from the Irrigation Department to build a reservoir to ensure year-round water supply and establishing a fishery project at the reservoir to ensure food supply.
  • Clean drinking water project, with the support of the United Kingdom Committee for Thai
  • Charities, to provide clean piped water to all areas of the colony.
  • A wind-powered water pump.
  • An electric water pump.
  • Vocational training to allow patients and their children to obtain the skills needed to help them through life and not be a burden to society.
  • A fertiliser project to help patients and their family to obtain fertiliser at economic prices.
  • Building hygienic toilets in all houses.
  • Regular distribution of food and essential supplies.
  • Monthly donation of tow cases of Mali condensed milk by the Mali Company for the past 10 years.
  • Donation of a dental chair and repair to clinic building with support from the United Kingdom Committee for Thai Charities.
