The definition of the beginning of life (at birth or conception) is a moral one which belongs in the realm of one's religion, in one's church or temple, in an individual's soul. I believe in human rights and the separation of church and state. I do not believe the tenets of a religion should be forced upon everyone who lives in a country. If you believe alcohol is wrong then do not drink it. If you believe abortion is wrong then do not get one.

I was going to respond, but I couldn't possibly come up with a better perspective than Franklin/D17. Very well put!

Let the poor teen girls bleed to death in illegal side-street clinics,be maimed for life by quacks or lose the ability to have a baby later on in life. Let's increase the burdens on the poor teen girls to make their lives even more miserable and pointless. If we're lucky, this could even increase the number teen suicides.

I'm shocked so many voted no. What a dark age mentallity.

WOW .. Cannot believe the polls results so far .. looks like the old Yankee Republican moral right wing has been active answering this poll.
How can anyone in the 21st Century not be in favour of legalized abortion? Obviously, it should not be a method of birth control and an education programme must be instituted, preferably in schools, but how can anyone in this overpopulated world be in favour of adding unwanted babies to this crazy world. Let's be honest here and admit that the rich upper class (who can afford to raise kids) can and do get professional abortions but the poor, underprivileged (who cannot afford unwanted kids) cannot. Fair?

How ridiculous. The morality of it aside, making abortion illegal isn't going to stop abortions. It's just going to push it underground. People with money will go to other countries to get them and people without money will do it with a coathanger and perhaps kill themselves too in the process.

Not to mention, this is Thailand. Not only are these underground clinics able to be done more effectively here, but there's also the concept of face that will encourage pregnant teens to get an abortion, no matter the cost.

If you think you are old enough to have sex you must be responsible enough to take the consequences of your action. It is the responsibility of parents to educate their children regarding sex and not the schools. Why do people want to shift the responsibility to teach their children values to someone else? In todays world of instant gratification values fly out the back door and "my rights" take centre stage. Abortion in the case of rape is acceptable to me.

Of course it should be legalized, since the alternative right now is an illegal abortion. Teenage pregnancy leads in most cases to disaster.

  • Discussion 18 : 27 Nov 2012 at 12.3918

I can't believe its not legal already. Time to get join the civilized world and let the women get control over their own body's.

Didn’t know abortion was illegal! It must fall in that special Thai ‘illegal category’ like prostitution, gambling, human trafficking, bribery, kick-backs, stealing public revenue for personal political use, tourist killings, rapes and scams not to mention the daily breaking of the 5 basic precepts of Buddhist philosophy that Thailand thinks it owns. Legal or illegal; really not much difference with unequal and inconsistent enforcement of laws.

Do you think that those teens NOT getting pregnant will start getting pregnant if abortion is legalized, NO I don't think so. Those who want to experiment will want the thrill of early sex whether abortion is legal or illegal. Legalize it and get rid of all those sleazy abortion clinics.
